Enjoy a walk in the woods while learning about edible plants, trees and history! Along the way, witness a friction fire demonstration and sample tea made from freshly harvested plants in a 19th century campsite.
The woodlot is home to a healthy bird and mammal population, so during the tour we should be able to observe animal tracks and sign. If we are fortunate, we may see some animals in their natural habitat.
Tours are approximately two hours long. This may vary, depending on the amount of people on the tour. The tours cost $20 per adult and $10 for youth (8-18) and children (0-7) are free. Family and groups (of adults and youth which does not count children) larger than four receive a %15 discount. Tours must be booked in advance. In order to book a tour please see the bookings tab at the top of this page.
Please note that these trails are not groomed trails and have some rocks and tree roots exposed, as seen in the photos on this website.
It is recommended that participants bring with them footwear that is appropriate to the season and for hiking (for instance hiking boots, not sandals). Pants, long sleeve shirts and bug repellent are highly recommended. During the colder months of the year, please dress in layers appropriate for the season. There are no washrooms on site other than what nature provides, so please take this into consideration.
Feel free to bring walking sticks and water bottles. However all garbage must be taken with you when you leave. There will be walking sticks, bug spray and bottled water on site. The water and walking sticks are available for purchase.
How To Find Sam's Woodland Tours
Just 15 minutes north of Bridgewater!
From Exit 13 on Highway 103.
If coming from Halifax, turn left toward Bridgewater from Exit 13. Once on the Logan road extension turn left onto St. Philips Street. Stay on St. Philips Street until it turns into the Upper Branch Road. Stay on this road for approximately 15 minutes until you come to the Seamone road on your right, but stay on the Upper Branch road. There will be three houses on the left side (and they are far apart). After the third house which has the civic address 3737 you will see a driveway to a woods road. If coming for a tour, the sign in the picture above will be hanging on the post. Pull into the road and into the gravel parking lot.
